In Good Repair

 1 Cor. 1:4

I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus,

Like is dynamic, not static. The only consistent thing is change. We are constantly changing, facing new problems and opportunities. As we change, so do our relationships. None of us is the person he or she was and - Thank God- will be as the future unfolds.

A great friendship is one that gives people the freedom to grow and keeps up with their progress. It is no compliment to say to a friend, "You haven't changed a bit!" We know this is meant to be an affirmation of a person's consistency in personal attributes. But are we also aware of the advancements our friends have made as they have turned life's struggles into steppingstones?

A friendship that's kept in repair is one in which we are in touch with what a person is learning on all levels of life. When we say, "How are you , friend?" we should be ready to share the excitement of discoveries battles for and won. It is so easy to lose contact with friends even when they are not separated by distance or time.

The apostle Paul's letter to his friends were filled with his delight over their growth. He kept his friendships in good repair. The passage we read today expresses profound love and encouragement. Paul knew about the strengths and weaknesses of the Corinthians. He confirmed their progress and challenges them to continue to  grow. He kept in touch with problems and communicated that he was standing with them claiming the  Lord's best for them  - all because his friendship with Christ was in good repair.

Planting Seeds:

"A man, sir, should keep his friendships in constant repair"

Matthew 10:39

"He who has found his life shall lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake shall find it.

 Today's Thought:

"The love of our neighbor is the only door out of the dungeon of self"

Self-concern is a prison indeed! The more we think about ourselves, out needs and our desires, the more incarcerated we become. The reason is that we were created to share. Happiness is in interdependence, not independence. When we contradict God's plan, we get moody and down on ourselves,...
